It's going to get worse before it gets better.

It's too dark and overcast here this morning for me to get any decent pictures of the mess I have on my hands. I've mentioned a few times that I'm trying to sort through my stash and reorganize it into some kind of usable order. So I've emptied a few cardboard boxes and now the yarn is piled in mostly unrecognizable heaps, not only in the yarn room but in the living room. The cat is beside himself.

So, I discovered, as I was trying to figure out Ravelry, that I need to organize my yarns in such a way that I can enter all the pertinent information about each one. This is going to take a long time. Much of what I have has never been photographed. So that's a biggie. And even the stuff that I have photographed isn't always the whole amount. So most of that will need to be photographed as well.

I'm in the market for some more plastic storage bins. I need to get those so I can put the yarn away as I photograph and upload the images. And then I can start going through the yarn that is already in plastic bins.

I found a couple of yarns yesterday that I don't recognize and I seem to have discarded the labels when I wound the skeins into cakes. That was really dumb! Revisiting these yarns is exciting and distracting. So many get pulled out and put near my knitting chair for me to play with. I already have more projects going than I'll be able to finish this year. Still, why not?

i refuse to put my stash on ravelry, as that would be admitting that i have reached S.A.B.L.E. that and the fact that a large part of my stash is acrylic for charity. oy!

The stash stuff was one of many unappealing things about Ravelry.

If I did a "Martha Stewart" inventory of my stash it would take the reset of my life. I may only add the new stuff (that alone with be daunting). Good luck, Larry.

sigh. I'm really hoping that Ravelry will help me start to get my stash *in perspective* and that it will lead to organizing the REST of my life as well.
I'm SO glad you titled it this way....
I'm right there with you, dude!

No way can I ever get all of my stash that organized--and no way it is all going on Ravelry! Even though I have an unlimited account on Flickr, I think it might overwhelm even that. Besides, I'm using it. Uh huh. Really I am! It's my Collection!

I'm not going to put m y stash on Ravelry either. I don't want to waste time with photographing and cataloging it, I'd rather knit and show my finished objects. ;o) But good luck to you, and have fun!

Add another vote for not putting my stash on Ravelry. I found it time consuming enough to go back and find photos of my projects to post on there. That's the extent of what I'll do.
I do like so many other features on it though. When I go through my stuff and find a yarn I might not know what to do with, I love going on Ravelry and seeing what others have done.
